I don't know if this is nation wide, it probably is but you should call and check b4 driving many miles :

The Ikea garage sale is this weekend here in Seattle. It starts Saturday July 1st. This is when they sell the majority of their customer returns, scratch and dent, and spare parts. I have scored some AMAZINGLY good deals here in the past. ($350 entertainment center for $30, $350 dresser for $80). There is also a coupon on the IKEA website for $20 off a $100 purchase. http://www.ikea-usa.com/content/main.../newmover.html
You have to click the colored boxes in the corner until they're all gone and then it will redirect to a $20/100 coupon. (good anywhere EXCEPT SEATTLE!!!! _wtf_!!!)

Get there early, cuz the good stuff goes fast and it WILL BE CROWDED!!

If you find out about other stores you might want to post and let peeps know if it's going down this weekend.

Lets hear what you got!

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, not too far from the nearest IKEA, I'll check tomorrow if they have the sale going on and post it here. Thanks for the coupon link.

Ikea is a international furniture retailer. They have a large web site so you can get an idea of what they carry. What they are known for is very nice contemporary well made wood laminated furniture. My brother-in-law has a very small apartment and had a hard time finding a table that would fit He found a table there that can expand to 3 times it's normal size and it looks very nice. They have huge stores in major cities.

IKEA is a reasonablly priced scan furniture store, they sell everything for the house. MTV RealWorld houses have been furnished by IKEA. Check out their website, get a catalogue. Trust me, you'll like it unless you have the dough to be shopping for your sticks @ Ethan Allen.

I would say IKEA stuff falls into two categories: normally priced stuff that is well made is looks good, and funky looking, very inexpensive things that are made the same way: cheaply. I outfitted my entire apartment with IKEA stuff four weeks ago: I think only dropped $1500 for a sofabed, kitchen table, 4 chairs, a comp desk and entertainment center/shelving unit. I've broken the computer desk twice now, and had to return it. The kitchen table and couch, which were reasonably high ticket items, are well made. I would say IKEA stuff is great for PARTICULAR pieces, but for me, a lot is a stop gap until I have enough money for "real" furniture.

I just called the SF/Bay Area location and they said that they won't be having the sale tomorrow and the next sale is after Christmas. sucks for me. At least I can use the coupon. I'm going right now.
