that digital research cdrom is the biggest piece of crap in the world. i wouldn't pay $0.06 much less $10. i had one and the tray got stuck over and over and then i took it apart and fixed it and it broke again. bah. just thought i would make fun of digital research.

http://www.staples.com has a Digital Research CDROM for $49.97 with a $20 mail in rebate. Use one of their $20 off $50 coupons (Add some clips, of course) and you also get free shipping.

It actually is a peice of crap, I had the same problem where the tray was stuck... but before I heard like a loose screw in there or something. Not worth it (I got it for free with my WD Hard drive, so no prob there).

Use your money to by a 52x Kenwood cd-rom. I hear those things are the best.

Actually...you should probably avoid the 52x True Speed drives. They never got the kinks out of those ones, and they have a fairly poor track record (I personally returned 3 of them before I gave up and bought another type of drive).
The 72x True Speed drive, however, is a wonderful drive. The price is usually around $100 for one of these, but you get what you pay for. ------------------ ======================================== UCLA_TA Yes...even the TA's at UCLA use GotApex ======================================== |

Oops, my bad. I do remember reading some bad things about the 52x Kenwood drives. At 72X True Speed, I'm thinking that it would be theoretically possible to use it with a burner for a cd-to-cd copy.

Heh...we all forget which individual products within a product line are good or bad. I just happened to "remember" my bad experience (and subsuquently reading about other's too) with that particular drive.
And yep...have to agree with you there. =) The 72x True Speed drives are capable of doing CD to CDR burns at high speeds (haven't tried above 8x yet, but 8x does work). The 52x drives aren't up to snuff for high speed burns (at least the IDE ones aren't). Strange how 32x speed SCSI CD drives are up to the task, yet 52x IDE drives aren't. =( ------------------ ======================================== UCLA_TA Yes...even the TA's at UCLA use GotApex ======================================== |
