Western Digital 80 Gig Special edition HD $19.99 AR

Office max has the WD 80 gig hard drive for 19.99 after rebate for its weeky special (jan 25-31).

I got there at 11 AM, when the stores opened, and got one of 7 that they got in stock. But they were telling other people that they could order one for them.

Most stores are probably out, but might be worth a shot if anyone wants to try.

link to the weekly ad. for the hard drive:

I was at my local OfficeMax at about 11:40. The 7 they said started with were long gone and I joined the line of those putting in orders (about 5 people ahead of me). The guy at the customer service desk (who had been entering orders for about an hour straight by the time I got to him) assured me that if the rebate gets rejected (due to sale dates) that I could bring the rejection notice into the store and they would pay me directly.

Side note - the guy taking orders said they were so busy at opening time, one customer took pity on them and brought back a box of donuts for the staff. (Hmm, I see djsusm's location is Oak Brook - I wonder if he/she was at the Downers Grove store?)

I actually went to the store next to the Oak Brook mall. I was considering going to the Downers Grove store if the Oak Brook one was out.

Got there at 10am-

Because some dude in a yellow coat got out of his car, thus requiring all of us to leave our warm, heated cars and stand in line.

We got in, they had about 20 drives handed out... they htey wheeled a shopping cart full of them out to boot. Probably 40 drives total.

Greece, NY

They also had a CDRW for 65$., but discounted to 9.95. No rebates needed. So, if I may say, SCORE!

You can just call them up 877-633-4236 and order over the phone (If they're still in stock.) I did it this morning.

I don't know if this is an issue for anyone at the other stores, but the rebate form that they handed out at the Oak Brook store on Sunday morning was the wrong one (it was only for the external one).

I stopped by there again today, and they printed out the right form/receipts for me.

How'd you get a raincheck? I called and they said the drive would not be "replenished". Meaning, they will not get anymore in stock. You know something they don't?

To everyone,

I read the corporate email this morning, there were about 12,000 rainchecks for the whole company as of Tuesday night for the hard drive. So, it could be a while before everyone get their drive.

Later,

Fat chance on their honoring all 12,000 rainchecks. Isn't there some small print stating it's only good for a certain amount of time (usually 30 days)?

My order is going to be cancelled if it doesn't come in by the middle of next week. Rebate window is closed by next weekend so there's no point in my keeping the order open.

I was just told at my store that if they dont fulfill my raincheck within a week they will give me a better (bigger) drive... meaning i could possibly get a 160 for only $20 and with no rebates.

I was just thinking of calling OfficeMax to inquire about my back order for this item, when lo and behold, guess what was delivered to my house today! Time to send in the $60 in rebates to get the price down to $20! (Not quite as good as the $22 200GB WD from Dell that I got, but $.25/GB is still nice!)

OfficeMax has not been great on their rebates. I've had to bug them a lot to get mine.

Guys, anyone know where the $60 in rebates are? In the "rebate book" there are 2 rebates for a total of $50...not $60...am I seeing something wrong?

Look carefully on the first WD page from the index (I think page 5). The week that this deal was from lists a $30 OfficeMax rebate on the 80G internal WD 80G drive. The other $30 is from the WD form near the back (around page 45 or something).

I picked up my drive last night. There was a one page (8.5x11) rebate form included with the purchase for the $60. I would ask for it if I were you.
