Talking Phillips 30" WS HDTV still just $359+tax shipped free

http://www.outlet.philips.com/b2c_redesign/b2c/productdetail.do?productguid=41907ABB9A6F008D00000000828BD472406F47FF982601DDE1000000828BD4B2&produc tarea=41907ABB9A6F008D00000000828BD472&scenario=catalog&shop=OUTLET

Mine arrived this past Wednesday and I can say it looks fabulous. It's refurbed, but at $380 ($359+tax shipped free) it's unbeatable. It uses component inputs (no DVI/firewire) but has a total of 5 sets of inputs, making it a great unit if you don't have lots of inputs on your reciever.

Same here - Mine came in last week, and the picture is excellent! It outperforms the Philips 30PW8402/37B ($467+ tax) I bought some time back. The latter has been a bit of a dissapointment, but the price was right at the time.

That $359 is a killer deal!

You mean $360 shipped for a 30" widescreen HDTV isn't cheap enough for you? I paid $350 for my 27" analog flat screen.

i bought one about a month ago, refurb'd. i have a noob question, how does the component cables work? i plugged it into my prog scan dvd player and into the av4 on the back of the tv and the screen is blank. im using s video for now, but i would like that extra clarity.

civicdidex, check the settings on your DVD player. Mine defaulted to S-Video and had to be changed. Also make sure that the right color cables are plugged into the correct plugs.

It says "Free Shipping" so you don't need any special code.

Did you go as far as to actually order the tv (put in card and checkout) because it's at the end that it says that it's out of stock.

When I ordered mine, I went to the checkout point and was told it was out of stock. However Philips will e-mail you when they come in if you want them to. They did for me, and it was worth it! That set is very good for a lower-end 30" widescreen! Outstanding for the price!!!

How did you get to do this? I didn't see an option for email when item becomes available...

I dunno anymore... I've slept, suffered through taxes and had a root canal since I picked it up at the dock! (and I'm not kidding!)

I'd swear there was a link. I've bought from Philips' outlet store before (my previous 30" widescreen purchase) so maybe they had a "click me and I'll remind you" link?

The picture is really good for a high def set. The only shortcoming is a common one for Philips, and that is a weak power supply... which means white text will bloom more than a premium set. I think a lot of that has to do with alignment from set to set.

When I bought my first one, it has a noticable blooming issue with text, and the sides pull in a bit when viewing a standard 4:3 picture. Mind you, that is a different model that cost a lot more and has HDMI.

When I received the $359 special, I opened the box and checked it out right away as it is not being used right now (it's to be a gift for my mother). I was really, really impressed! It has a better picture overall than the higher-end one I bought for myself! Better text, less geometry issues.

For the price, dang! Heck, ditto for the $460 one I bought for myself!

I was almost ready, but decided to wait for a projector and a new place. I find myself not even using my 20" widescreen LCD lately so I doubt I'd use that tv much. But what a smokin deal imo.

Unhappy

This is so tempting! But I need to get my SUV maintenanced which will by far exceed the cost of the TV by double. I'd rather have the TV!

Out of stock again. It's sad too because my 36" Sony XBR bit the dust today after 7 years of good use.

Look at the bright side... this was an omen from the television Gods. A 7 year old 36" Sony is likely worth repairing. That set pre-dates the toss-away era. Call "the man" and have him take a look at it.

Also, if my story's worth anything to ya, my unit that I received today was DoA. The CRT flashes a horizontal white line a couple times back and forth and then turns itself off. It is a pain trying to get this shipped back because the box and the TV is taking up so much space!

Most of the times you get what you pay for - in my case it was the hassle of having to deal with a dead unit that's not in stock any more. So it's going back to Philips and I'm just gonna make do without a TV. I took my chance with it and I guess I'll be OK to have gambled and all I've lost is time.

So there it is. Good luck.

ehh i dunno about that. While they definately don't make them like they used to. The phosphors on a set will be significantly dimmer after 7 years of use, and in a couple years the tv won't even be watchable. Our Sony 27inch died after 12+ years of use. I'm currently using a 10+ year old Sony 32inch. Been looking at RPTVs lately.
