Question

i built a computer with an abit bp6 board and a celeron 566 OC'd to 850. My problem is that my computer won't start up when i hit the power button, and has problems restarting.
For example...
when i hit the powerbutton, electricty goes through the machine (i didn't hook up those wires wrong) and the hard drive and cd-rom spins up, but nothing appears on the monitor. the standard text (the video card stats) that are supposed to start up, don't, and the comp doens't boot up. However, when i press the reset button, after i press the power on button, it usually starts up. it's really kind of wierd.
another symtom that might be a clue as to what's wrong is that the comp never restarts after i go into the bios, i have to manually reset the computer in order to make it start up.
Do any computer experts out there have any idea whats goin on?
what i've tried:
downclocked the processor back to 566
swapping hard drives, cd-roms, RAM, video cards, sound, network cards and processors. i think it's the motherboard, but is there anything i can do short of exchanging the board.
my setup:
abit bp6
celeron 566
WD HD 20gb
tnt2
3com network
SB live
128 kingston RAM
samsung cd-rom

thanks everyone

Question

Have you tried resetting the bios to default?
Before you do you should also look at your power options.
Also what OS are you running? I know some people had similar problems with 98(can't remember which version).

The first thing I'd check is the power supply. Power supplies are junky like that. When they go bad, they can cause intermittent problems like this one. You could use a voltmeter to check for continuity in the wires, but check EVERYTHING in the power supply. (including the molex connectors) Beware: This won't find voltage spikes or sags if that's the problem. A better option would be to borrow a friends power supply or go buy one. If the problem doesn't dissappear, then I am out of my league.

Hope it helps
