Unhappy I really want it to do well...but I'm not sure...

I've been a loyal Intel customer for over eight years. If the P4 doesn't rip big holes in AMD's market share, I may defect.

Pentium 4 will be overpriced and won't perform as well as a similiar speed PIII or Athlon. Thus this is why Intel is releasing the P4 at those speeds. Intel also doesn't want to lose the Mhz race. Even Intel acknowledges 6 month after the inital release of the P4 a revision of it using a bigger socket form factor will come out. But don't forget Intel with the Tualatin (fab size .13 microns) is going to be pushing up the Pentium III's speeds.

Interesting articles about this:

I'm uncertain about the P4, the 20 stage pipeline worries me. Most certainly, the price of the chip will be much greater than that of the Athlon and I don't think that Intel will be able to competitively price it because of the incredibly large die size (twice that of the PIII). The chip has potential though. I will hold off making too many judgments until the chip is actually released and it's performance compared with the athlon thunderbird.
