I got a CD-R drive as a gift. THe drive has a warranty on it for 1 year. I got it about 3 months ago. Just a week ago, I knocked the tray out (when it automatically ejected after burning) and I cant push it back in. Do you guys know if companies let you get the warranty if you got it as a gift? Because Im pretty sure they will ask for the receipt but I dont have one because I got it as a gift.

Does the box have a price tag on it or something that ID's the store it came from? Some stores let you take back stuff with just a price tag, even if the price has been picked off.

Or, buy the same drive at that store. After a couple of days, trade in your busted one. Tell them you don't want a new one cause its too low quality, you just want your money back.

Or, tell whoever gave it to you that it's broken, and ask for the recipt. Promise not to look at the price.
