Can I returns part of new Dell system for a refund?
Hi,
It might be offtopic but not sure where else to post. I have a question if I get new Dell system from Deals section and then would like to return say HDD or RAM back to Dell for a refund so I can buy those on my own somewhere else, is it possible? |

I know my friend did it year ago, he returned RAM, HDD, graphic card back to Dell and end resuld he got bare system for virtually price of processor in Fry's. Just wondering if anybody else was able to do that.

I have done it numerous times but not recently. The last time was about a year ago with desktop RAM. But it helps to have a CS rep/Account Rep that you are in good with. The guy who used to always help me out is no longer there and I am in the process of cultivating a new contact, he has sent me out additions to systems over the last few months at no charge (XP disks, PCMCIA network cards, etc.) but I haven't asked him about buy backs yet.

aren't you buying a system? Wouldn't that be like buying a car and taking back the stereo and speakers and expecting a refund just because you wanted to upgrade them?
