Lots of Conroe (Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Extreme) reviews up today

(LP briefly mentioned this in the News section, but here's a ton of more links)

Lots of reviews up around the net (linked there)...one of the most interesting things I've seen (in the one that I've read from Anandtech):

The goal was to reach the highest possible speed that was benchmark stable. Super Pi, 3DMarks, and several game benchmarks were run to test stability. The 2.93GHz chip reached 4.0GHz on air cooling in these overclocking tests. That represents a 36% overclock on air with what will likely be the least overclockable Core 2 processor - the top line X6800.

To provide some idea of overclocking abilities with other Core 2 Duo processors, we ran quick tests with E6700 (2.67GHz), and E6600 (2.4GHz). The test E6700 reached a stable 3.4GHz at default voltage and topped out at 3.9GHz with the Tuniq Cooler. The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests. Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests. That represents a 67% overclock.

Holy crap
I think I just decided to buy an E6600...4ghz, stable, on air - for $319?
Sick.

The days of the 1.6A P4 days are here again........ no wait, the days of the Celeron 300MHz are here again (MUCH more performance gain out of the Celeron overclock in its day).

Amazing stuff indeed.

R.I.P. Pentium -- your days are over.

I'm somewhat concerned about the whole TDP fiasco that has been reported by a few places.. namely tomshardware.. Apparently Intel released their TDP relative to typical power consumption for this Core2 chips, rather than the industry standard which is to report the Maximum power.... But I'll still give them props on developing a NEW processor for the first time in ages

I'll still wait to see benchmarks of 4/8-way Xeons based on the Core architecture before I make any decisions about the arch's power feasibility and usefulness as an enterprise arch.

I guess Intel isn't as dead as folks have lately made them out to be huh?

I'm still not really motivated to buy yet, but that is a good push in that direction.

My 2.4 Intel is serving me well. AS far as I am concerned, it's as fast as I will ever need.

Heh, companies go in cycles. I just wish my companies quarterly earnings lock-out would get over so I can sell my shares and buy INTC at it's rediculously low price.

Amazing. Less than a year ago it looked like AMD was winning with its Athlon X2 and other CPUs. Now Intel has really turned the table with its Core Duo and Core 2 Duo.
