I want to upgrade the memory in my Mom's computer. It is a HP Pavillion 6356. It uses a AMD 333 processor and has 64 meg of 66mhz CL2 168 pin SDRAM. It uses 2 sticks of 32mb each. I picked up the Kingston 128 mb stick that runs at 133mhz at CL3. HP's web site says it will accept 128 sticks.
Will this memory work in this computer? Can I just pull out one of the 32mb sticks and add the 128 stick? Should I just pull out all the old ram and use the single 128mb stick? Thanks in advance! |

It should work in the computer dasgoat. Yes you can pull one of the 32meg sticks and put in the 128 meg stick. Its up to you on whether or not you want to leave the 2nd 32 meg stick in. It also depends on how much ram your mom uses. Personally I'd leave the 32 meg stick in unless there's some problem.

sbp,
Thanks for the input! I would prefer to just leave the other 32 in the machine. I just didn't know if there would be any "issues" with the memory sticks being different, 66mhz CL2 vs. 133mhz CL3? |

You know... that CL3 133 just might work well at CL2 if it's running at 66MHz. I agree... give it a shot and if there are issues... then take out the 32MB.
