Looking for input on system purchase

Turning into a wishy washy old man. Was going to build a desktop and buy a laptop also for work, now debating whether to just do one or the other.
Desktop- build myself
Asus P5n32- e sli MB
Core2 Duo E6600
2 gigs Ram
2 dual head Video cards
Plus all the other parts ~$1350-1500.
Laptop- would be
17" WSXGA+ (1680x1050) "Color Shine" Widescreen LCD w/PCI-e
T7200 (2.0GHz) 4mb cache 667 FSB
nVidia GeFOrce Go with 512mb
most likely add Matrox Dualhead2GO to have 3 screens available
with extra stuff $2050
I'll lose my current laptop to oldest this year.
Any input on my sanity or part selection, or which you view as best option appreciated.

Dual head video cards? Nvidia or ATI? I'm an Nvidia guy myself. Partially because Nvidia plays nice with linux.

nVidia video cards. Haven't made a final decision on which. So far I've had an ATI melt down on me and my nVidia's have had no problems.

that's just luck, and as nothing to do with ati or nvida. Might have something to do with the branding of the card, though. I mean, nvidia doesn't really *make* video cards in that sense. And ATI only makes some of them. So you know, luck of the draw.

My general opinion is that you can't lose right now with any dual-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM (unless you're running Vista?), SLI video (I only have 1 256mb video card which does okay, but even 2x256 will help spread the load).

You'll be fine for the next year for a bare minimum of those specs... choose the mid to high shelf within this category and you'll be good for 2-3 years.
