I currently have a 233mmx. I don't use it for much beyond the internet, kids programs, home productivity, and occasional games.

I would like to start playing with my JVC mini DV camcorder using a firewire card. I just bought a 30gig HD. Now all I need is a processor and new mobo. and memory but I can figure that out.

Any suggestions, I saw that AMD's were cheap on pricewatch but I don't have a clue about mobo's. I think of them as a package deal. Meaning that I would not worry much about future proofing my mb. If I bought a 700 and the mb maxed out at 700 support that is fine. Or is intel still the way to go?

Suggestions over 150 are also appreciated.

hmmm, what kind of ram is in your system? cause if its not sdram you'll need to upgrade that too.

I believe that ram is SDRAM. How would I know? I have 96 MB total one 64 and one 32. If I don't have SDRAM. I will get it.

I was looking at the AMD thunderbird 750 and a microstar mobo. It was 230.00. More than I want to spend but It might have more lasting value than something slower!

Any thoughts?

you can get an even better deal, an Asus A7V and a Thunderbird 750mhz for the same price. ($230)

The A7V is probably one of the best boards out there. You're gonna need new RAM, but it shouldn't be a big deal, RAM's super cheap right now.
Oh, and get a good cooler for the chip, the one's that come with are weak. Look into a Alpha, they kick serious butt.
