New Plextor 12/10/32 Help please....

Ok, just got a new Plextor 12x IDE... sweet, right? Well, my old version of EZ CD Creator did not recognize the drive. No problem, right? Just install the version that came with the drive (4.02) you say? Well, I did that but the program does not run.

I double click on the .exe and it gives me the splash screen... but then stalls and says [Not Responding] in the task manager. I have yet to run the program successfully. I have run into this problem with 4.0 before... but this time, it came with the drive.

Also, MusicMatch does not see the new drive either.

I got the update from Adaptec (4.02e). Still the same result.

Has this happened to anyone else? And how did you resolve this?

Thanks,

Dave.

Have you tried running the full uninstallation of EZ-CD Creator before you installed the newer version? I know that version 4.0x is not an upgrade of version 3.5; it's basically a new program, and your OS will treat it as such. Therefore, if you were running version 3.5x before you installed version 4.0x, the drivers may not have been updated properly and the registry entries may be all goofed up. Also, even though the drive is very new, you may want to search for the latest drivers.

head over to http://www.ping.be/satcp/ for help.

sounds almost like your aspi version is out of date. Or it is a conflict between the two version. Uninstall everything, then run all the Plextor installers. Check plextor for both software and firmware upgrades (both are available right now).

Plextor likes being the Master on an IDE port, so check that as well. It will work as a slave, but Burners don't like it.

I'll give it a shot. My old S&F 2x2x24 was the slave drive under a Kenwood 42x CD-ROM master.

Would you suggest I put the Kenwood as the slave under the HD and have the burner stand alone as the secondary master?

In my efforts earlier, I did uninstall all Adaptec programs and reinstall. But I will do that again. And I upgraded the firmware... to no avail.

But I will try shuffling the cables and jumpers around and let you know how it works.

Thanks guys,

Dave.

Well, if you plan on using on CD to rip from, it's best to have have them on separate IDE spots, so yeah, slave the CD and put the Plex as a master on IDE 2.

otherwise, give Nero Burning Rom a try, or CDRWIN. I like them both better then Easy CD anyway.

The Plextor is now the Master and the CD-ROM is the Slave on the second IDE chain.

Got Nero... it recognized the drive just fine. I've never used Nero before... it's very nice.

EZCD Creator... along with Abit's SoftMenu II... can both eat my a$$. They're on my list now.

Thanks for all the ideas.
