Apple Computer has changed the design of its iMac computers, which will from now on be slimmer and will have modern design. But besides the obvious changes in visual outlook of the systems, the new iMacs obtained higher-performance Intel Core 2 Duo chips as well as ATI Radeon HD 2000-series graphics accelerators.

The fresh Apple iMac computers feature 20” or 24” wide-screen displays, 2.0GHz or 2.4GHz dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 1GB of PC2-5300 (667MHz) memory, 250GB or 320GB hard disk drive, slot-load DVD burner, ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT or ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card as well as other key components. The new Apple iMacs are equipped with modernized Apple Keyboard, Mighty Mouse and infrared Apple Remote. As previously, the new iMac systems feature wireless networking, built-in web-cam and so on.

Apple’s new iMac integrates the entire computer system into a sleek, professional aluminum enclosure for a striking, clutter-free desktop. An elegant glass cover joins precisely to the aluminum enclosure creating a virtually seamless front surface.

“This new iMac is the most incredible desktop computer we’ve ever made. Our new design features the innovative use of materials, including professional-grade aluminum and glass, that are highly recyclable,” said said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive.

The 20” iMac now starts at $1199, $300 less than the previous 20” model, and the 24” iMac starts at just $1799, $200 less than the previous 24” model.

Looks pretty pretty. But ever since my "TV-VCR combo" incident back in college(VCR head got damaged, but had to live without a TV for weeks), I avoid "in-a-box"-style electronics like the plague. But I can see why these would greatly appeal to a lot of the people who love apple for their simplicity and ease of use. It's a beautiful piece of product design.
