Fujitsu today announced their long-awaited palm-sized LifeBook U810 mini convertible notebooks, bringing to life Intel Ultra Mobile PC 2007 platform. The manufacturer claims that a scant 1.56 pounds with a 5.6-inch WSVGA display with 1024x600 resolution and an ultra-slim QWERTY keyboard, the LifeBook U810 notebook is the smallest device of the kind. The U810 has a QWERTY keyboard that works when the clamshell design is opened, but also allows touch-screen input from a finger or pen. It also can be converted to a tablet PC by twisting around the 5.6-inch screen and laying it back on the keyboard.

Despite its tiny size, LifeBook U810 is fully fucntional. LifeBook U810 is a fully-fledged mini notebook capable of running standard notebook applications. Once back at the office or at home, simply dock the notebook into the docking station and use an external display and keyboard to deliver a true desktop experience.

The LifeBook U810 notebook is built around Intel 945GU with integrated graphics and is equipped with the energy efficient Ultra Low Power Intel A110 processor optimized specifically for highly mobile devices. This CPU works at 800MHz frequency and features 512KB L2 cache. The device has 1GB of memory and 40GB of storage capacity. With a standard 4-cell lithium-ion battery, it delivers up to 5.5 hours of computing time. The mini convertible offers users a choice of operating systems to meet their needs, and is available with Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.

LifeBook U810 offers very decent connectivity, it can be connected to wireless and wired networks. It features one USB 2.0 port, an integrated SD and CompactFlash Type II card reader. It also comes equipped with a Bluetooth 2.0 adapter, a web-camera and biometrical fingerprint sensor.

The LifeBook U810 notebook should start selling on September 18 2007 and will be priced at $999.

5.5 hour battery life? Definitely a good start.

(Not sure how feasible these machines really are though, but I guess they do have their uses.

That's really not a bad price either. Most of these types of devices have had much less functoinality and been closer to the $2000 range. I would actually consider one of these for business use since I work on the go...
