Acer buys Gateway

GATEWAY'S BEEN bought by Acer for over $700 million. The acquisition gives Acer extra clout in the American market and also strengthens its position in Europe. Acer will continue to use the Gateway moo-cow brand - the deal is expected to close in December but has been agreed by the boards of both companies. Gateway, in the meantime, will pick up all the shares of Packard Bell in Europe. Acer president Gianfranco Lanci said that the combined outfit will give considerable efficiencies. The combined revenues of both Acer and Gateway will amount to around $15 billion per annum. |
