scsi or raptor?
hello people,
I'm planning to build a pc for gaming mostly, and just wondering which one is best bang for the buck, the raptor or the scsi? Also, I don't have any scsi accessories so if I go with that route I have to buy the adapter and cable and probably 80 pin to 68 pin adapter also. Please give me some advices on this> TIA I will go with raptor then and thanks for all your help. ![]()

I'd go the Raptor route. SCSI is not too common for personal computers, meaning that prices will run higher (in addition to requiring the interface). OS installation can be trickier (may need drivers on a floppy). Also, I think that SCSI drives tend to run hot. With the Raptor, it's just plug it in and fly.

raptor.
hands down, the EASIEST way to get the fastest HDD speeds today. SCSI: - needs an adapter and cable (more stuff to cram in your case). - runs about as hot if not much hotter (raptors do run hot, but what do you expect from a 10,000 rpm drive?) - noisier (raptors are very quiet compared to other SATA/IDE drives) - boot-time is longer (not good if youre an angry german kid). - during OS installation, if the OS doesnt have the drivers for it, you will have to fish for it with the CD or (gasp!) a floppy disk. - costs more. if they cost the same, you still have to worry about setup. - IF you overclock, that can mess up the PCI bus that the adapter sits in. - reliability is the same. raptors were made to run in an entry level server environment. it can take a beating before it craps out, unlike regular drives that die when it starts to get real hot. *cough*maxtor*cough*

How would one of the newer SATA 3mb/ sec drives compare? Pricewise they are lower than a raptor. I am still in the exploratory phase of possibly putting a new rig together. Not familiar with scsi.
