Question

My bro has a Pentium 2 400 mhz chip on a W6BXA motherboard. I would really like it if someone told me what brand this motherboard is and what bus speed it is? I want to know what kind of RAM to put it in it. Is it pc66 or pc100? I am pretty sure it's not pc133...

Thanks,

Tibor

OK I found out (I think I found out) that it's 100 mhz bus. In bios, it says for the chip, 400 mhz, 100x4.

One more question I had:

Can anyone still find a link for this for me w/ the specs, so that I can find out what speed the AGP port goes at? 1x/2x/4x?

Thanks,

Tibor

YOur W6BXA mobo was made by Wintec (Edom).

As you can see these two links bring nothing up. I believe Wintec went out of business. http://www.edom.com
http://www.wintac.com.tw/

W6BXA is a BX motherboard. The BX in the name gives it away. Therefore the AGP port goes at 2X.

Cool thanks for all the info...one more question I have.

If the bus speed is 100 mhz, does that indefinately mean that I can put any chip on there, so long as it's a chip made for a 100 mhz bus? Or what are the limits?

Also....I have a cyrix 166 chip on an asus mobo. I am pretty sure, althogh now 100%, that it's a 66 mhz bus. If it is, then that means I can probably put a 500 mhz celeron on there for a 66 mhz bus, right? I just want to make sure, cuz maybe this mobo I have here has some use to it...

And if I can put a faster chip into that P2...well it would be nice.

Thanks,

"If the bus speed is 100 mhz, does that indefinately mean that I can put any chip on there, so long as it's a chip made for a 100 mhz bus? Or what are the limits?" Don't know. This motherboard may or may not take a Pentium III or Celeron. Finding information on this motherboard is almost as hard as trying to stay out of Rosie O'Donnell way when she's rushing for the doughnut table.

Below is a picture of Rosie Blabbermouth after spotting the doughnut table(s):

This is a position you don't want to be in by the way.

"Also....I have a cyrix 166 chip on an asus mobo. I am pretty sure, althogh now 100%, that it's a 66 mhz bus. If it is, then that means I can probably put a 500 mhz celeron on there for a 66 mhz bus, right?" Excuse me for a moment. Cyrix bwahaahaa. Okay I'm back now.

This is PR166 Cyrix 6x86 Cyrix chip which runs at 133Mhz with a system bus speed of 66Mhz. What is PR? AMD, Cyrix and a few others got together and made up this bs standard to say what would be the equivalent Intel cpu to their cpu's. Basically it was a bunch of smoke trying to make their crummy cpus appear faster than they really were and trying to make it seem like their cpu's outperformed Intel cpu's.

Finding out information on Asus motherboards is pretty easy. So if you know what motherboard you have you will be able to find out what cpu that will be able to go in it. This will be a socket 7 motherboard. A celeron uses a socket 370 form factor. That means you won't be able to use a celeron in that motherboard. The faster cpu you could use is a Pentium 233mmx or AMD K6 cpu.
