I have the Creative Labs Annihilator2 Ultra, which has the GeForce2 Ultra chipset. Works wonders at 1280x1024 resolution!

What is your price range? If it is less than $100 the voodoo4 on the deals forum is a good deal (even though 3DFX is not supporting it soon). I would jam for CS.
If you want something that is going to be supported for a while go with a Geforce2. The MX is the cheaper of the bunch. The GTS is better. The Ultra is the best. New cards are just around the corner so prices will keep dropping and dropping, but there are deals to be found right now. |

What kind of system do you have? Cause if you have a fast enough one, just go for a GeForce MX. Then you can hold out until the newer video cards come out and then the current ones will be nice and cheap....

roboo7: My recommendation for videocards that fit your price range are a 32 meg GeForce2 GTS, 32 meg GeForce 2 MX or a 32 meg DDR ATI radeon. These cards are fast, provide good image quality and will perform well for quite some time.
The GeForce 2 MX is cheaper than the GeForce 2 GTS and Radeon. Figure the MX will cost about $100. The GeForce 2 GTS and Radeon outperform the GeForce 2 MX in high resolutions in 32-bit color. Quite frankly the MX begins running out of bandwidth at 1024x768 in 32-bit color. The 32 meg Radeon costs $199 (retail price} but there's a $50 mail in rebate from ATI on it good through 1/15/2001. The rebate is good when buying the Radeon from computer stores like CompUsa and Best Buy. This rage3d thread {an ATI fan site} has details on this: http://www.rage3d.com/forum/ubbhtml/...ML/001109.html http://www.g256.com/features/gfpricewatch.html Look for GeForce GTS list 1/4 of page down. All GeForce 2 GTS videocards use the same reference design and are clocked the same speed {200 Mhz core, 333 Mhz DDR memory}. Taken from the above link: Buycomp $30 off $150 coupon $157.95 Gladiac GTS videocard at buycomp People might as well buy a videocard now and not wait around for prices to drop because the prices won't be dropping much for the next 2-3 months. Nvidia's next generation of videocard the NV20 is rumored to cost $400+ due to it using a .15 fab size and having 50 million transistors (which is more than Pentium 4). Xbitlabs said the Radeon 2 aka R200 will be sampling in February yet will be in mass production in July. That's awfully late for a part that I heard was nearly done. And the NV20 is supposed to hit in March with nearly the same specs (4 pipelines with 3 texturing units in each pipeline}. So the next generation of videocards will cost a lot and might be late. As for the Poodoo 4 keep that sh1t away. GeForce 2 MX smacks it around bad. You don't want to know what Radeon and GTS do to it. You might as well get a videocard that performs good and will be supported.[Edited by sbp on 12-24-2000 at 12:14 AM] |
