Greetings fellow Apexers. I am looking for a good external CD-RW and I am wondering if anyone here has had experience with either a USB or Firewire CD-RW. Is the firewire Hot- Swappable like a USB? Also, I have only been able to find a 4 speed burner for both of them. Any ideas for a cheap 8 speed or faster?
Thanks everyone who views this. You may now return to your designated forum.

Only if you HAVE to have external...
I have a USB writer (Sony), the same engine that HP, Sony, and Iomega use. Although it writes fine with CDRWIN and Adaptec in Win98, it often has problems in Win2k, and most CDR programs won't even detect it in Win2k.
Finally, many smaller programs (CDcopy, CloneCD...) don't detect it at all, regardless of the OS. So, if you HAVE to have one... The USB is nice in that I can bring it anyware and copy files onto CDRW... But the Firewire is faster and I'm partial to higher voltage connections. |
