2.4 GHz Wireless LAN Antenna
I am trying to learn more about setting up a Directional Antenna on my huse to receive a broadcasted WLAN signal from about 3 or 4 blocks aways. I know where the broadcasting antenna is located I have full access from the owner but on my laptop I can't get a strong enough signal. I need to mount a directional antenna on my house pointed at the other antenna and then bring that signal into my house into a router and then to my computers. Can anyone give me a clue how to do this? The antenna'e I have been looking at have a coaxel cable that come off the end and I don't know how to get that connected to a router? Any help would be appreciated...

First, you need a good wireless equipment supplier.
I like Demarc - you'll be able to get whatever you need from them. Second, I think you're a little confused about what signal goes where. The receiving antenna should plug either directly into your wireless card in your laptop, or to a wireless bridge. You can't send a wireless signal from router --> router. Since you have multiple machines that you want to connect, you need a bridge. That bridge can plug into a router, and then you can share the signal from there. Depending on your budget, you can either call Demarc & tell them what you're trying to do and they'll sell you everything you need, OR if you're on a really tight budget, cruise on over to ebay & start looking for wireless bridges. Good luck! |

You may also want to try Radiolabs, as I have bought many antennas from them and they have come through every time, even with special requests.
