22 inch widescreen LCD monitors...

So....my monitor decided to crap out on me...it just won't turn on at all.

So, I'm looking into getting a new one...

So far, the ones I'm looking at are

HP w2207

and

Dell SP2208WFP

Both of these look really nice and seem to be good monitors...any of you have experience with these? Or do you have one that you would suggest?

Thanks all!

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

How much money are you willing to spend?

In the 22 inch category, I'd say go with a Samsung 2253BW .... excellent quality monitors at an affordable price.

I'd HIGHLY recommend the Ultrasharp version of the Dell rather than the SP. It's more expensive, but well worth it in image quality.

If you hurry, there might still be some available at the outlet - they were selling them for $249 this morning, but those go quickly...

Honestly, for the price that they are asking for a "refurbished" unit, you'd be better off with the Samsung unit I mentioned earlier.

BTW... who do you think makes the PANELS for those Dell monitors? (There a good chance that the answer is "Samsung" ... of course you know that DELL doesn't make them. )

it's just as a good a chance it's an LG, and it's also just as good a chance the samsung you like has an LG panel in it. Even samsung doesn't supply all samsungs with the same panel, even under the same part number. Get any 3 monitors of the same exact part number from the same company built in 3 different months, you'll likely have 3 different LCD panels from either LG, Samsung, or a few others.

The HP's are pretty nice, actually (mostly LG panels), but really if you just stick with any of the major brands, you are going to get a good monitor. I would not buy a refurb'd one though, you are just that much more likely to get bad pixels. HP, Dell, Samsung, all good brands.

<---changed out quite a few panels over the years.

I know... that's why I said "good chance" in my post above.

I was just making the point that Samsung actually makes panels... versus Dell that doesn't.

If you gonna buy a refurb Dell for the price of a new Samsung... get the new Samsung.
