New 300GB WD Velociraptor 10kRPM SATA
....in a 2.5" package?????
It's still only being sold as a desktop drive, enclosed in a big heatsink that makes it fit in the traditional 3.5" HD bay on your desktop. WD claims a 35% speed increase over the Raptor X 150GB. Plus they say it won't work if you take it out of the heatsink & cram it into your laptop, although I'm sure someone will try it. $299 http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/04...ociraptor_hdd/ ![]() |

Pretty much it won't fit in a laptop for the most part... it's too tall for most laptops and generates way too much heat for a laptop to withstand.
Heh... the heatsink does make it look like it has "Velociraptor claws" don't it? ![]()

But it's fast. I might replace my OS-boot drive in my main desktop with this once the price drops a little bit.

I know it won't be cost justified, but I'm going to be awfully tempted to swap my Raptor 150 for this one....
