Hmm What brand of printer /printers you own?

im in the market for a new all in one unit . scanner/printer /copier one of my epsons a cx 4600 just stop printing today .the head runs like it is printing but blank sheets are all im getting and have brand new cartages installed. i installed all 4 of them and im not finding any error codes .i think the print head just clogged or died.even when i do a clean cycle and test print nothing but a clean sheet of paper comes out.

I've always used HP units, though the ink can be costly on them.

That said, the last printer I bought was an HP Photosmart P1100 back in 2000 or so, so I have no clue how well the current ones perform. The nice thing about HP is that the printhead is on the cartridge itself (part of the reason for the extra cost), so that part never wears out.

We found that we don't use a lot of color ink, so we went with a laser printer. Brother, just a printer though, not an all in one.

this is a bit odd .but i just can't bring myself to buy a brothers printer. not that they may be anything wrong with them at all. but for some reason when i here the name brothers im mind set. that there a sewing machine manufacture. and were of a lower quality to a Singer sewing machine. and i don't even know if this is the same company that made sewing machines.

Epson, but I'm going to do some serious shopping around next time I get a printer. This one (R300) sucks ink like a pornstar.

That's the issue with Epson. The TAPPI folks find that Epson printers are the ones that use the most ink due to a few tricks up their sleeves. For example, if a color runs out, they re-run cleaning tests that use all the inks again, using more ink.

If an ink color runs out, Epson printers tend to stop working.

The HP printers are good because they also use ink, but the average ink usage per page (with startup cleaning, calibration, etc) are much lower than epson. Plus, you can keep on using the printer cartridges until it actually runs out of ink.

If you read around, when an HP printer says "low ink", you usually have 10-25% of a cartridge left, and can still use it until it runs out. That's what's said in the manuals.

BTW, I work for HP printing, so we keep track of this stuff all the time.

HP 1310. One of the best I've ever had IMO.

Hey, Nap, long time no hear.

I used to be an HP advocate... however their latest batch of offerings sorta turned me off.

Now, I've switched over to Epson. Currently I run an Epson Stylus Photo R340. I bought this printer mainly for the reason that it can print directly to writable CD/DVDs. This is a very nice feature that my previous HPs didn't handle.

Also, the high ink consumption and costly replacement inks and printheads finally turned me away from HP. Seriously, they must be making a KILLING on ink sales.

So far I've been VERY happy with my Epson. Ink usage/cost is very reasonable (average OEM replacement cartrige is $12 to $20 for each color... With HP, I was paying roughly $25 to $35 per color with a total of 6 colors and 6 print heads which cost another $25 to $30 each)

Way too rich for my blood...

We have a Canon Pixma MP530. We haven't had it all that long, but I like it. The ink isn't too expensive to replace and the unit itself was pretty cheap.

Canon photo & HP laser. Can't go wrong, as long as you stay away from the cheapest ones.

I own a Xerox Phaser 6110n which I love, and an Epson CX3200 that I haven't tossed yet because it was an all-in-one and I still use the scanner. The printing quality and speed on the Epson are awful.

Do you need the scan/ copy function? Do you print photos?
I used to have an Epson all in one and found the exact same problem- the heads clog after about two years and it is worthless after that. I went with a color laser printer from Dell. I don't do a lot of printing in general. Per print, lasers are cheaper especially when you include ink.
I don't print photos at home- it was just too expensive compared to doing them at the corner drugstore or someplace else.

i did buy a epson CX8400 all in one. looked at a hp but the memory card slots were on the right side. were on the epson the memory card slots there on the left.my printer sits on a shelf up and to the left above my flat panel monitor.
its a pain when i do need to scan a paper or make a copy.more then a couple of times a week. but do to space in my computer area i live with it. i will say the new Epson cx8400 is faster at printing then the old Epson cx6400. and i agree when i need to print pictures it is a lot cheaper . to send them or take them to
Walmart's or other photo print shop.also faster and less work. the cost of ink and photo paper and time plus quality. if i need one picture i do it at home.

I've got the same thing - It works great.
Got one for my mother in law too - she likes it more than what she got with her Dell bundle.
