Finally bit the bullet and got myself a new computer
Core i7 920 (cooled with Vigor Monsoon)
Asus P6T XFX GeForce 260 GTX 6 GB (2x2x2) OCZ RAM 7-7-7-24 timings Seagate 1TB 7200.12 Windows Vista 64bit + coupon to upgrade to Windows 7 And a Corsair 750W PS to power that bad boy I think I'm going to get another XFX card to run in SLI...but only when I think it's starting to get a bit sluggish. Wooooo!!! New computer for GG! I get to play games on my computer again...instead of my wife's! I think she was getting a little annoyed that I would use her computer to game. ![]() Hopefully, this will last me another 5 years without major upgrades. ![]()

I have the same processor and MB with three GB ram (using the 32 bit Vista Home cannot use 6gb) and I don't use the full potential of the CPU for anything yet. I got mine the week it was released (I hope the MB price has come down- it was like $300 when I got mine). You should have plenty of power for quite some time. I too hope mine lasts for quite a few years. I got about seven years out of my old one. I was playing the Crysis demo on full resolution (26" widescreen) and high details no problem with a GeForce 9800x GTX. Don't see the need to go SLI. Congratulations on the new set-up!

Can a 750W Corsair P/S handle 2 GeForce 260 GTX cards?
That's alot of power required with those 2 monster video cards.

In the end, I've also decided to bite the bullet and just upgrade the remaining components in my rig. Here's my new setup:
ASUS P6T SE X58 motherboard Intel i7 920 CPU 3GB of Corsair DDR3-1600 memory (I'll upgrade this later) ATI Radeon HD4870 512MB video card Corsair 1000w PSU Lian-Li PC-7FW aluminum case Returning components from my previous rig: Cool-It Freezone Elite CPU cooler 2 x 64GB G.Skill Falcon 64GB SSDs Seagate 1.5TB 7200.11 drive (as long as it lasts) Seagate 1TB 7200.11 drive I'm expecting to reach at least 4GHz on this setup (maybe more if I get a good CPU).

I actually did some checking on that DF...there were a bunch of people on Newegg that had almost the same setup that I did and they had the 750W PS that I got and it looks like they are doing fine. So...here's to hoping. ![]() |

750w might be pushing it for extended periods (read: more than 6-8 hours at a time), but the fact it's a Corsair should help. Corsair tends to get very solid reviews even when tested at high loads.
Actually, I'll change that thought - friend has dual GTX 280s with a full watercooling setup for CPU/GPUs, and I think they only have a 750w (maybe 800w PSU). |

I am only running one video card but think I just have a 500w Antec power supply. No problems. I don't play games much anymore- mostly photo editing.
