Dust Bunnys attack

I just picked up my sister in-laws HP desk top today .its having problems starting up .
i open up the case and I'm sure she fried the power supply .there is enough dust in the case that I'm sure. if i were to put it on a scale i find it weighs twice what it did coming right from the factory new. tomorrow i try and take some pictures of the inside of this unit .
i took off the CPU fan shroud and she clean it . it was 80 -90 pecent clogged solid with dust bunnys and im going to use my air compresser to blow the rest out of the case,CPU heat sink ,and fans .not something i do normally but i go though a 1/2 case of compressed air other wise .also the power supply seems to be total clogged just on what i seen when the case lid was removed this afternoon

tell her to clean her house more! ;-)

I've done that too. killed a power supply because the fan died because of all the dust in there. Now, every now and then when i get aorund to opening the compute (which happens at least a couple times a year), i'll blow out all the dust.

Honestly, I'm almost to the point of putting a shop vac in my computer room. The canned air just blows the dust bunnies out of the case and onto your desk... but doesn't get rid of them.

I guess with something like this, it's better to suck than to blow.

Get a compressor and vacuum and blow the dust loose and suck it straight into the vac. Works great.

I typically use my compressor to do the job (I have a small unit that is easy to carry around).
