First, I heard that it is a good thing to adjust my BIOS settings from factory default. But to what?? From what I understand, you can do this manually (which I'm scared to do) or there is freeware out there that will adjust them for you (would you recommend?).
Next, (I also asked this question in a another topic). I want to upgrade my memory. I currently have 64mg PC100 (max 512mg, 1 free slot). Looking at this Sunday's ads, I was thinking of getting 256mg but it's PC133...would this be compatible? What does PC133/PC100 refer to? I also read in a book not to mix the types of memory. Last, what the heck is overclocking? System: HP 6830, 700mhz, 20gb HD

For bios, check out Apex's guide (shameless plug):
http://www.gotapex.com/reviews.php?rev=bios/index.html The PC133 will be fine with your system. Overclocking is running the CPU and/or Front Side Bus speed faster than specs. This was popularized in the Celeron days when Intel decided to charge an arm and a leg for Pentium II's. Smart people decided to run these celerons faster than the Pentium IIs for less than half the price. Now that CPUs are so cheap and fast, there isn't really a need to crazy anymore. Some people still do it for fun or old time's sake. I prefer my computer to not sound like a jet engine, so I am running my computer at spec (gasp). |
