When GeForce 3 comes out for PC, who actually, truthfully, plans on getting one??

If they're priced at how much their mac versions are ($600+ ?), they don't really have to sell that many of them.

Not me. So far the games runs pretty smooth with GeForce2 GTS. Until the software starts to catch up and utilize those "next-generation" feature, I will stick with my old trusty GeForce2.

as far as i know the gf2 just came out a little while ago, well maybe a long while ago in the computer upgrade scheme, but i wouldn't describe it as "old", trusty, hell yes but old i don't think so.

In the computer world, everything that happens in yesterday is considered "old". [grin]

Thumbs down probably not...

$600 on a vidcard? Insane, poor investment for those on a budget. Im waiting for the next radeon line.

Heh... sure. The GeForce 2 GTS is not even available at that price, yet (If you prove me wrong, that would be great ) and it has been longer than a few months.

Well, of course they will get to that point, but not in a few months, but then that, or course, is why it was a joke.

As the owner of a GTS and 32 meg DDR Radeon I currently have no plans to get a GF3.

After the GF3 comes out the prices on GTS's, Pro's and Ultra's will go down.

The Radeon, GeForce 2 and V5 are DirectX8 compatible not compliant. The Radeon although it is a great card and the most feature rich videocard currently on the market card is not DirectX 8 complaint.

To be fully complaint a videocard must fully implement and perform the pixel and vertex shader standards. The first videocard to be DirectX8 compliant will be [drumroll please] the GeForce 3.

DirectX 8 won't be used for quite a while in games. By the time DirectX 8 is commonly used there will be faster videocards on the market. Hell even Doom 3 is not supposed to be out until 2002.

My advice is to wait to fall to buy a new videocard unless you have a crappy videocard {V3 3500} like hapoo does. The Radeon 2 will be out. The fall should see the relase of the NV25-a higher speed NV20 in the fall with a .13 micron fab size. Kyro's next generation part codenamed STG5000 is being worked on. Maybe even Matrox will finally release the G800.
