Motherboard and memory question....

I am replacing a motherboard for a friend and have run in to a problem.... When I start up the PC I hear some bleeping noises (this is my mobo telling me something is wrong, right?) and the PC bios will not post, everything else like the fans and the hard disk do start up. I know it is not the processor ore the video card because I have tried them in my own system and they work. When I swap his memory into my pc it will not post, so I know the memory is fried:-( I have tried to install my own memory in his pc.... the house went dark. Does this mean the mobo and the memory are both dead ore is it just the memory? The funny thing is that the pc will power up, but it will not post. Any suggestions are welcome...

If your getting beeps, its not the processor. what type of beeps are they though? might help to describe them.

there are usually 2 kinds of beeps
One means that there is no video card attached (or not attached properly)
and the other means that the ram is bad
(there are other types but these are the most common types)

Here is something also that my friend told me awhile back that happened to him which is usually the case if you use already used parts such as the hard drive or processor form other machines now did your remember to FORMAT the hard drive before you put it in the machine? Or was it Preformated like a brand new one? Secondly the beeps you are recieving should be in your manual for those who do not read the manual they have a whole compedium of stuff on what those beeps mean like the single LONG beep is an ok symbol telling you that your system is running in good condition but the other beeps you will hve to referr to your manual form the motherboard I cant tell you off the top of my head secondly if the ram dont work dont use it! I am sure you knew that one though...

It seems I got a frontpannel connector wrong...It is an Intel mobo that came with my old Gateway system. The Gateway mobo manual is worse than useless.... it is wrong. I went over to the Intel website and found an motherboard that is almost the same and found the right connector settings. Beeps gone now. The reason I thought the memory was faulty was because my own system would not start up when I swapped his memory for mine. I had forgotten that I have overclocked my system:-) so that is the reason his memory does not work in my system...stupid mistake.
