What about Philips Acoustic Edge or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz? They're both pretty much equal to Live 5.1 and Game Theater XP, unless you're looking for a breakout box.

not just that i believe that the turtle beach santa cruz is the only computer soundcard to be THX certified... remember THX only certifies one product in each different types of sound equipment, only one TV, only one AMP, only one Receiver... and so on... so there has gotta be something realy good about the T Beach card

Actually THX will certify any component which meets the standards......there are many THX speakers and recievers out there......the developer just has to be willing to go through the process and spend the money.

THX certifies a lot of DVD's too, only that's proven to be a bit of a joke. I sometimes wonder about it.
Depends on how good your ears are. Right now I have the Herc, the siesmic edge and a Live (not the 5.1 though). the herc so far does sound better than the older live, and has a crap load of input/outputs. I don't see how the 5.1 could really sound better. I like the software package better too, from a movie watching/song playing standpoint, and it's cheaper. But the Phillips is pretty nice too. Let's just say you can't really go wrong with any of them, but for best value I'd go with the Herc right now.

It all depends on what you want to do mostly. For music go with the live. For gaming go with the santa cruz. For movies go with the philips.

I'm going to use it both for gaming and for music. I'm not going to be doing any recording though and from all the reviews that I have read it says that the sound is better as far tone quality goes when playing music. I think I'm pretty much sold on the game theater XP. Anyone else?

i gotta go with graingerguy on this one
Theater XP is the way to go... i highly doubt anything more innovative will come out for quite some time... it also seems that the XP realives more CPU power so that you can get that kick ass FPS you've always thought you should have |

The SBLive has been surpassed by its competition. This is why Creative will be releasing its EMU102k product the Audigy in the fall. Last I heard
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz needed to work on its Win2000 drivers. I would go for either the Philips Acoustic Edge or Game Theater XP. |
