I need some opinions for scanner. Here are the criterias I'm looking for.

Interface: USB, SCSI (at least USB)
hardware resolution: 1200 x 2400 dpi (at least)
bit depth: 42-bit color
Price: $300 ~ $500

So far i'm looking at HP's 5370CXI and Epson's 1640SU. Suggestion and user exeprience are welcome!

you took the words right out of my mouth...

I have been looking around for scanners, and I've settled on the Epson 1640 SU PHOTO. I dont have it yet, as I wont have the $$$ till this summer.

What are you going to use it for? Photos, OCR, slides, overlays? At my job we recommend scanners all the time for people who are visually impaired or have reading disabilities. For that type of scanning we recommend the Epson perfection and Visioneer PaperPort. Both fall within your specs but the Epson has the option for a transparency adapter. The Visioneer 8800 USB (my favorite) costs $179 direct or about $140 street and has a maximum optical resolution of 1200 by 2400 dpi. If you need transparencies, go with the Epson.

I mainly gonna scan photos (so I can store them on HD ^^) and pictures from book and magazine. Feature of scanning 35mm negative film would be an extra feature I would like to have! ^^ the HP 5370CXI comes with a adapter for it.
