Our house just got RR, and I didn't feel like running RJ45 or coax to my computer upstairs. Has anyone used a wireless hub? How reliable is it?

if its just for internet access than go for it, but if you want to share files its too slow.

Hmm... we probably would be doing some filesharing... a 2Mbps would be lacking still?

It's fine for file sharing as long as you get an 802.11b compliant WAP - they run at 11Mbps.

yeah 11Mbps if your standing right next to the WAP, but since your going to be walking around the house that signal has to go through walls and the reviews i've read say that the rate drops a whole lot even through one wall. It depends on what type of files your sharing, for example it would work perfect if you just want to listen to an mp3 from another computer but if you want to transfer a 20 meg file it might take a while. |

Right on... thanks for the input. I'll let you know what we figure out.
(Plus we're in an old U of MN college house that's got plaster walls, probably filled with lead, asbestos and/or other crap to deteriorate wireless connections, heheh). |

What about those phone-line networks? I think they are up to 10mbps. Myself I prefer cat5e!
