I am running win2k with a asus v7700 video card using the detonator 6.49 drivers. My current video transfer rate is 2x!!!!! this is half of what it should be and I am certain that my Cusl2-c will support 4x

Make sure you have the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers installed. Personally, I use the PowerStrip program to overclock and configure my video card. It tells me exactly what's going on with it and has a place where you can set the AGP mode. It's free to download and try.

on some via chipsets the only thing you can get is 2x
a buddy of mine has a tyan mobo and tyan tech told him to run at 2x ( at 4x he bsod before he was able to log on ) the difference in quake might be a few frames.. not half make sure you load the latest 4-n-1 drivers then reload your video drivers.. if you must run at 4x check your bios it might default at 2x |

not...
ok.
So I am now using powerstrip now to put my Radeon up to 200/200 vs. the underclocked factory setting. - Johnny |

Asus CUSL2-C uses Intels 815EP chipset.
AGP4X is overrated. Don't worry about it since your not missing anything by having it enabled. |

i haven't used 3dmark.. but the difference in the games
in the two os's ( i have dual boot ) are not that much differnece. in win 98 i was using driver 6.49 and i updated to 7.68 and what a differnce and in w2k i am using 6.88 my pc seems to like that alot. with my sound card i had some problems with the driver eating up resources ( even if you are not using the sound card it still slows down your whole system ) so updated the driver to the latest version. note it looks like the w2k driver enables full eax support by default maybe try turning off eax. do you have anything running in the backgound like icq and etc disable it. how do you get on the inet ?? modem or thru a nic card. if you have nic card and use a modem you can disable the nic on the fly and enable it without a reboot ( it might be trying to get an address from dhcp server ) i got the 688 driver from CAD ( http://www.the-ctrl-del.com ) the audio driver you can get from creative labs website note i might upgrade the the video driver to 7.68 i will tell you how it goes... |

Got the problem fixed
I figured out that with Asus the bios automatically puts your agp port @ 2x if you over clock... There is a new "tweaked" bios that fixes this problem you can find it here ... http://www.x86-secret.com/i815twken.php I highly suggest anyone that is running a Asus Mobo with the i815 chipset to go download this driver set... It is really useful... |
