I've been mulling an idea for awhile. Seems there are quite a few older fridges runnin around out there. Sooooo I was think about drillin some holes in one and shovin my loud ass puter in it and crank down the temp. Even thought about riggin the resevoire in the freezer and fillin it with anti freeze for cooling my processor. Only thing I'm worried about is condensation. But that usually only happens when you open the door a ton. Am I insane or just slighlty demented?

You will get condensation on the warmer parts of the computer. It doesn't sound like a good idea.

Maybe you can just duct cold air from the refrigerator to the CPU heatsink and fan. But it's still a big waste of electricity running a whole old refrigerator just to cool a CPU. A peltier w/ water cooling would work better and waste less electricity.

awww man...

even if i had the reservoir in the freezer getting the liquid to sub zero with the rest of the unit in a different area? i saw a guy who mounted his heat sink directly to the freezer in a beer fridge but i just want to cool the liquid.

here's the link
http://www.pangea.ca/~guisolut/jb/projectk.htm

only in canada would a nut sacrifice his beerfridge
He's got ballz though

Also how bout putting desiccant in the fridge to reduce the moisture? Figure throw a couple of pounds in the vegetray and seal that bad boy up with a humidity sensor on the outside.

I say, use the ProMinx Theory of Refrigeration (TM). If you turn down the thermostat down to 32 degrees, everything is cold. You don't even need a fridge for your beer.

why don't all overclockers move to alaska and then set up a air pump from outside to the cpu
this should provide ample cooling for free

I agree. If you're really hardcore about overclocking, you shouldn't buy more stuff. You should relocate.

condensation on warmer parts

Wrong! actually condensation only occurs on the coldest parts of anything! The danger with condensation is important when you open the door to the freezer and warm relatively humid air hits your cold computer parts motherboard and condenses. If you never open the freezer while the computer is cold then you'd be fine. The problem with what you're saying is that while a freezer may get pretty cold it isn't the most efficient way of transfering that cold to your processor where its needed the most. So even though your freezer is working to cool your computer you're not getting all that cold power to where it needs to be. a better idea would be to buy a bunch of copper tubing and run it inside the freezer filling it up then attach a water cooler to that copper tube. This way you can also waterproof your cpu using silicon and grease (as listed in many howto's) to get rid of the condensation problem.

Chillin

Dats what I was thinkin. I figured I would just put my pump ,radiator and resevoir inside the freezer to chill the antifreeze then pump it back out to my pc. It would be a pain if my puter was sittin in my fridge. I like the idea of water cooling but i didnt understand why you would use room temperature for cooling? Heck I could fit that thing sittin in my meat fridge. Course i dont know if it would generate too much heat and screw with me steaks.
