not to sound like a smartie but did you hit the power switch on on the back of the case?
Is the case and pwr supply also new? If so, might check with another mobo to see if it will power up. see if a bud will let you switch around with his computer. Plug his pwr into your mobo. |

make sure all cables are connected properly (i.e. make sure IDE cables have red wire on pin 1). make sure RAM is in securely and the same thing for the CPU

maybe ur master boot record got messed up. if ur running windows get a boot disk and go into dos. type in "fdisk /mbr" and reboot. That restores the master boot record.

I believe the same thing happened to me once. my cousin plugged in an ide hard drive without changing the jumpers on the hd properly and it blew out my mobo. the thing wouldnt post. i had some of my teachers look at it (at the time i wasnt too involved with computers) and they ALL said it was a power supply prob. these guys were mcse's, techs and they were always around computers. any way, i finally figured out that it was the mobo and the only thing i could do was replace the entire board. make sure everything else works though just to be sure, there can be many reasons that a comp doesnt boot up. i checked everything before i figured it out including, processor, ram, power supply, vid card, sound card, bios chip, hard drive, floppy drive and cd drives.
good luck and i hope you dont have to replace anything. |

Okay, since most things seem to power up, chances are your power supply is fine... but you still don't want to rule it out just yet. The answer is not gonna be the switch on the supply, IDE cables, or the MBR.
Since you haven't even gotten a beep or even a beep error code, that actually narrows it down a bit. The point at which your computer stops during the boot process gives some vital clues as to what's not working. One of the first things a computer does is let the speaker sound off to let you know the speaker works. Computers always assume the PC speaker works so they can relay beep error codes to you in case it has no other way to tell you about an error e.g. the video card doesn't work. There are 2 general possibilities: 1) The motherboard isn't getting sufficient power. 2) Something important on the motherboard (or the motherboard itself) isn't connected properly or defective. 1) Power. If you have a power supply on the smaller side or if its just plain defective there are ways to figure it out. Unplug the power from the hard drive, floppy drive, and cd drives. See if that changes anything. If the computer starts to boot, plug everything back in one at a time to find the culprit. Also, reseat the power connector to the motherbaord and make sure its plugged in properly (though its pretty hard to flip it). 2) Detective work. I believe the initial beep comes during the POST (someone correct me if I'm wrong--the test beep may come before that POST runs). Since the POST is an actual program, you need a processor and RAM for it to run. Those are the first culprits to look at. Reseat your RAM and processor. Some motherboards require that fans be plugged in before they'll power (at least my Abit does...I dunno about newer ASUS boards). After that, reseat the video card. Those are usually the main culprits when you get no beeps. Most other things can be defective or not plugged in and you'll still at least get something on the screen and/or beeps. That's all I can muster up off the top of my head. Good luck. Mezpin |

no beeps
there are no beeps at all....not even the test beep for the speaker...even backed up to having nothing plugged into the board except the cpu and PC133 128mb Ram.... still nothing.
Power to fans, no test beep no beeps at all....may have to return to supplier problem is they had a 7 day return policy...any way I can get around this....how about threats...lol |

Maybe 7 days if you change your mind...but you'd be trying to EXCHANGE a defective product. Most resellers are more lenient with those because they get reimbursed.
For that matter, it's your reseller that should be doing your technical support. You can bug them. ASUS also has a support line, though it may be swamped. I don't know if ASUS will accept returns directly, though most non-motherboard manufacturers do. Mezpin |
