Thinking of getting into a P4 and I can't seem to figure out which memory to get.
Looking at the Asus P4T, it says it RIMM PC800/PC600 RDRAM. Who makes RDRAM? Googlegear carries the P4 1.3 in retail and oem. The price is drastically different. The oem from what I can make of it doesn't have ram built on the cpu? But it still has a 3 year warranty. Is the oem like the next celleron? Thanks for any info |

Not sure where you picked up the oem w/o ram thing, but normally an oem cpu will NOT include the heatsink and fans as a retail or boxed cpu WILL. Generally the warr. on the oem is only 30 to 90 days with the retail version having a three warr. Look under RDRAM or RAMBUS (rimm) at pricewatch.com or ibuyer.net or other pricelist. I would recommend PC800, which is a lot faster than PC600. Here is a link: http://www.ibuyer.net/sprodcat.html?cid=968 I can't remember exactly, but I think some boards require a continuity rimm if only one rimm stick is used. Personally I won't buy RAMBUS, because it is overpriced compared to the performance gain (if any) over pc133 or ddr ram. That is why I would be tempted to go AMD right now. It is a personal opinion though |

I think that the OEM in their part number is a bit confusing. The description states that it is a retail boxed processor, with a three year warrantee, without any bundled RDRAM. Keep in mind when buying RDRAM that many motherboards require pairs of RDRAM. The "retail" bundle that they advertise comes with a pair of 64 Mb RIMMS for a total of 128 Mb. CRIMMS will probably come with your motherboard. Check before you buy. |

Ahh that has to be what it is. The ones that GoogleGear call "OEM" don't come with ram, while the "RETAIL" ones do.
That is where the confusion was coming from. With that in mind... HOLY COW have processors come down in price. |
