Greetings,
I noticed that most new motherboards have connectors for IRDA, but I have never seen any IRDA modules on the market. does such a product actually exist? it would be a great to synchronize PDAs through IR without the need for cables and docking bays. Colin |

good question....
...I saw some online for sale two or three years ago, but I guess they never caught on. Maybe motherboard manufacturers would sell them...

I have one on my laptop. I bought it around 2 yrs ago. It doesn't work that great though and loses connection easily. I use it with my printer sometimes but it is a PITA most times. I think that manufacturs stopped including it in computers is because it was not reliable enough. Now some are starting to use bluepoint (i think that is what its called) technology instead. It does need wires and works off a particular frequency.

yeah i have heard of that, i think it is called bluetooth and it uses RF instead of IR to transmit data. nice thing about it is that you dont need a line of sight connection unlike ir where connections could easily be broken by someone crossing the line of sight.
thanks to all that replied =) Colin |
