hey everyone... Thanks for looking first of all
I currently have 3 computers hooked up to my Linksys 4 port (BEFSR41) router. I was thinking of getting Pac Bell DSL service and I am not sure if it is easy to set it up so that all 3 computers can be online at the same time. Anyone know if this is possible and if so can you give me some pointers. I hear that you have to log on via some program called Internet 300 and I was thinking this may cause some conflicts if another computer tries to log on. Will this bump off the other previously logged on computer? In other words can the same account be logged on multiple times at the same time? Thanks in advance!

You have many options. By far the easiest is to buy a router for about $100. You can also use internet sharing in Win 98SE and above, which will require you to have 2 NICs in one of the systems.
If you want to get complicated, you can build a gateway. If you use Linux it's free. I personally use LAN Bridge software that came with my Linksys Home Networking Kit. Works well. -- Ramon Castillo |

You should have no problems with networking 3 computer to the DSL connection. Most routers allow PPoE options, at least on my SMC Barricade it does, but I have a static IP so I wouldn't know.

Cool... so currently I have the linksys with all 3 computers hooked up to it. The DSL line comes from the wall to the Alcatel Speedstream 5260 Modem and then it goes from the modem to the router.
My only question is does this sound good and if so, you don't think I'll have any problems due to that logging in program? I mean do you think it'll bump someone off one of the computers if I login on another computer? Thanks for you help. |

you can'y have more than one connection using the software they provide.....
You can't do internet conection share'n with PPPoE DSL..... the only way to do it is to get a router that supports PPPoE... I have pacbell DSL and I use the Linksys 4 port woulter and I have hade like almost 10 PC's on @ one time.... You say ou already have the router so you son't even need to put the DSL soft on the PC's....... |

So can you help me out here with the setup?
I am assuming you enable the PPPoE and also the connect on demand function but what do you put as a username and password? Do I have to register for that? Thanks... I'd appreciate your help. |

PPPoE
I just connect the modem to my linksys(BEFSR41) router at the port provided for that and then dump the Enternet 300 software option the linksys as needed (instructions). Your linksys will make connection to dsl and the browser will find your start page as always. I have been using this method since getting SBC dsl. Linksys provides what you need at http://192.168.1.1 to place your user ID and password the default password should be (admin) Works great. Good luck. I don't know how new your router is but if you don't have 1.37 version firmware download it http://www.linksys.com/download/firmware.asp and install it.

Right... I remember them issuing PPPoE support in a firmware upgrade.

Sorry... But I need a bit more detail. So I don't have to use the Enternet 300 even once? Just download the firmware upgrade and then enable PPPoE? Or do I have to first install the Enternet 300 first and then delete it after the PPPoE options are enabled. Thanks again for all your help.

My assumption is that you need to get a login and password at least initally and then you can dump the Enternet 300 program. If I'm wrong please inform me of how to get the above without the software. Pac Bell forgot to send me the disk and it's going to take about 5 business days. I hate that. If anyone can send me the disk files by ftp or something let me know. Thanks!

You need a router capable of supporting PPPoE
Internet Sharing will NOT work with PacBell DSL. The DSL disables itself if its set for Internet Sharing. Once you get the DSL modem plugged to the Router, you will NOT need the Enter**** 300 software. Thats about it i guess. I have the same setup, PacBell DSL and a SOHOWare Router. Works great and i've never crashed.
