I finally got around to setting up the wireless hardware. Being a newbie at this, everything is alien to me. I got it to the point where the Linksys configuration on the laptop shows a good connection with the SMC access point. What I need is an ability to access the SMC administrator page from my laptop so I can use the dialup modem(and tell it to dial in to the isp) that's hooked up to the access point. What do I need to do? I also need to know how to access the internet from the laptop. Do I need to fiddle with the Connections/Lan settings in the Internet Options area? Any and all help is appreciated.

Not totally familiar with the SMC, but I believe they would all be similar in effect.

Your manual will tell you how to get into the admin mode.

Then you need to set your laptop's proxy to use your wireless access points ip. In my case my WAP's ip is 192.168.2.1 so I set my laptop to use that as my proxy.

in order to access the admin page you need to type into Internet Explorer "http://192.168.123.254" This will take you to the page so you can configure stuff... BUT in order to see this page your IP must be 192.168.123.***

Well, I figured out how to get to the admin page from my laptop. I set the ip of the SMC unit as the gateway on the laptop...

(btw, the SMC manual doesn't really go into detail about this and neither did the Linksys wireless pc card manual...)
