With how dirt cheap RAM is now, is it worth the extra $47 to get an additional 256 of DDR RAM? Wont most everything be ok with only 256? Or should I just drop the $47 and get 512?

Thumbs up 512

I have to remind you all, that 512 mgs of ram work fine in Windows 98 or Me. Anything higher can be a problem for both if you don't adjust your Vcache in the system ini file. Other than that it works fine. I have Windows Me, and I have 768 mgs of DDR running on my machine with absolutely no problems at all. I just set the min file cache to 49000, and the max to 51200. It is that simple. I do plan on upgrading to 1 gb of memory soon, since memory is so damn cheap. I know, I know what the hell do I need it for. I am just nutty like that.

What a LOC...
Win98/SE works pretty dooley jumping fine with 768 MB also - there is no 512MB limit whatsoever.

Rule #1: The more RAM the better...!!!
(I think it is more like Memory+DiskCache=Max 2GB)

Some of us can't afford the ungodly amounts of cash to buy 2K or XP.

There is also the question of compatability. Will all my computer games run on 2K?
Games are the reason I own computers. What point is there to having them if I can't use them for my games?

Most games i've tried work fine under Win2000. The few games that don't are not worth playing imo. In addition, Microsoft every couple months releases a compatibility update.

I got all 3 versions of Win2k (beta and official) through a now defunct Microsoft program for ~$120.

Asuming that I could get 2k for $120 a copy, that is
$120 x 4= $480 A little stiff to upgrade my home systems.

I run WinME and upgraded from 256megs to 512megs last week. My Sandra scores were the same before and after the upgrade. I can tell a difference in Photoshop and such, but with other programs there isn't the huge change that you see going from 64 to 128 to 256. But with 256MB of Crucial going for $50, I couldn't say "no". Does that make me a "memory ho"?
