if you are looking for recording from an assortment of external analog or digital sources, i suggest SoundBlaster Live 5.1 platinum. it comes with a front panel which has an auxilary input via coax cables, a second mic input, and midi i/o, as well as optical i/o and spdif i/o ports.

what about between the lower tier sound cards below the platinum, like the other Live! cards and the Santa Cruz and all the others?

in the SB line, only the platinum has the live drive (the front panel for your computer). the others only have inputs on the sound card itself. these include digital input, analog input and mic input. they also have digital out, analog out and headphone out. all these are the same size as a headphone jack. |

The company HOONTECH makes a couple of very cheap (~20$) Xtension for the SB Live! series, giving some Xtra digital I/Os. BTW they have some neat soundcards too! Clauzii, DK...

If you want high quality recording on your computer, don't even bother looking at what the general market has to offer. Even the Creative Live! blows for high quality recording. Look into the Lexicon core 2 PCI card, can be had for around $199 or so.

M-Audio also has the Audiophile 24bit/96KHz Card with Analog+Digital I/O+MIDI for 229$. Very good audioquality!! I use the DMan2044, which I am VERY happy with! (Although I am going to buy a DigiDesign 001 in the near future.) (BTW, In DK the Lexicon Core2 costs around 5-600$!!) Clauzii, DK... [Edited by clauzii on 07-11-2001 at 02:39 AM] |
