it's kinda like....

...Cas2 means that the memory has to do two things before it can process more data. Cas3 memory is slower because it does three things before it can process more data.

Simple enough?
(I realize this is far from accurate)
Now...good memory that is designated cas3 cans sometimes be clocked to cas2. Sometimes lousy memory (like my accessmicro stuff) will run in cas2 because I have it underclocked to begin with. (pc-133 running at 115)

It will probably work, but all the memory will be treated as CL2. Some motherboards automaticaly adjust the CL setting others are manualy set. If you try to run CL3 memory as CL2 you will have crashes frequently, if it runs at all.

the cl stands for clock speed. meaning if you have cl3 ram, you clock will go slower than the proper cl2 ram. This will cause you to constantly be late for appointments and other engagements. but when asked why you were late, all you have to say is i was sold sum bum ram only clocked at cl3, which makes my clock go slow. and they'll be oh, ok. after that, you can have a stimulating conversation as to why dihydrogen-monoxide is so bad.

Wink Didn't you hear...

I think the UN special committee on chemical, biological and nuclear weapons has outlawed the use of Dihydrogen monoxide because of the 1.1% of it that is radioactive and can be used to produce nuclear weapons. Heavy!
