all-in-wonder, worth the hype?

Can anyone tell me their experiences with Radeon's All-in-Wonder cards? I have been trying to figure out the best card to buy recently and was curious if this card might be the answer for my desire to video edit. As I understand it this card has video capture capabilities/input, tv out, and a DVI output. Is this correct? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Its worth The hype and then some, the tv out quality kicks ass, the tv tuner quality kicks ass, you can hook most anything electronic to it, the software is stable, recent drivers have been fast coming and stable, and all my games (about 300 of em) work without a hitch, its not the fastest of the cards but it is the one with what most consider the best image quality on any card and in speed it can still run with the big boys, its a great card, im sure others in here have good to say about it

It matters what kind of video editing you're planning to do with it. I had an AIW Radeon, and now have a GF3 + Hauppauge WinTV-D.

In terms of TV quality, the Hauppauge is much better. CPU utilization is also WAY WAY lower on the Hauppauge. For 2D picture quality, the AIW is about the same as the GF3 (GF3's have much tighter requirements on video filters than the GF2's and other nVidia chips, so the video quality is much better) in both the DVI and the VGA outputs.

If you're looking to do video editing, your best bet is the Matrox RT2000 (realtime editing). If you can't afford that, then there's not much difference in lower video cards.

My cpu utilization was fairly low, even during on-the-fly compression with the "ATI VCR." It may be a background thing, as the only thing that I run in the background if ASUS PC-Probe.

Anyway, I have been very happy with my AIW. I'm not overclocking it too much so it will last forever. I doubt I will be able to/want to replace it in the near future, so I'll be playin games in a year or so at about 30fps...but until the, it's gravy.

If money is an issue-go with the AIW Radeon, or VIVO Radeon if you have a good VCR to use with your computer. If money is not an issue-do what Apex did-get a GF3 and top-drawer Haupgauge card.

...the Radeon is VERY overclockable, if you're into that kind of thing. They ship at 166/166 or 183/183 and I have been told some people have taken theirs to 240/220 with a blue orb and ram heatsinks. With stock cooling, mine will do 210/191.

Wow! The RT2000 is really nice! Way too expensive for me, but damn it looks good. Being a recent college graduate, I don't have that type of money. I was spoiled having partial access to edit suites and now I am scrambling to have that ability at home. I would be editing personal projects where, hopefully, the message is more important than the quality of the medium. I want to find something that offers acceptable quality for editing from a mini-DV camera. As far as the AIW goes, what sort of input does it use? Would an IEEE 1394 fire wire be out of the question for around $200-300? So many options... When I answer one question, five more appear in the answer. Thanks again for the assistance.

In the last couple of issues MaximumPC has spoke highly of the Marvel G450 eTV.

"We think that Matrox's videocapture is superior to ATI's, providing more vibrant colors and suffering fewer compression artifacts." page27 August issue of MaximumPC

So I decided to get the ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 32MB DDR 4X AGP Video Card. As I was running through the specs at ATI Technologies before purchase, I happened across this little asterisk at the bottom of the page:

*DVI (Flat panel) display can not be used concurrently with TV-output display. DVI “hotplugging” is not supported.

Since I plan to use this card to run a DVI monitor full time, does this mean the TV-output display will never function? Is there a way to remedy this? What is "hotplugging"?

I was going to purchase through newegg.com for $185 OEM but they also offer the box version for $196 with some software. Is this software worth the extra $$$? Thanks again everybody.

for only $11-yes the software is worth it. It's Ulead Video Studio 3-a version behind what's currently available. The software is not great, but it's ok. As far as the DVI thing----the rgb uses an adapter from the DVI. I don't have a digial monitor, so I can't say if the TV-out/DVI thing works or not-seems strange that it would not, however.
