Ir remote for Ati TV tuner?

I just built a new setup and would like to control my ati all-in-wonder TV tuner with a remote controll. I have an epox motherboard that has an ir connection on it. Should the infrared receiver work with a programmable ir remote? If so what is the best software to controll my TV tuner.

I know that there are external serial infrared receivers, but I would like to use an internal solution.

I don't how most computer remotes work, but I have an ATi Radeon AIW and a Creative SoundBlaster 5.1 Live Platinum with the Live Drive IR which works ok. you cant control all the functions, but you do have control over channels and volume. im satisfied with it.
