Just like to say that I had the same overclocking problem with the Gainward golden sample when overclocking. What I did is remove the fan power from the built on plug of the card and put it directly on the power supply. Then I used poerstrip as opposed the the one that came with it and I was able to overclock to 245/558.4 so far. I am hesitant to go much further.

I too plugged the GPU fan into the mobo instead of the card - seems to run more stable that way (same with my old GTS2).
Another thing worth noting is that the thermal 'tape' used on the GPU fan is hardly sufficient. Take off the fan and scrape that crap off, and put on some nice compound (I used arctic silver2). My Gainward VIVO "Golden Sample" is currently running at 260/560 - has been for days without a glitch. I'm pretty damn happy with those specs! ![]() /Mas (On a KT7a w/1.1ghz btw) |

The onboard cooler draw alittle too much power so you may want to pull it out and plug a blue orb or something like that in before saying that it's the card!
I did it and got 245/550 w/out any problem! GeForce 3Pro/Ultra will be a while before is come out! (Price is going to be quite a bit higher and if the rumor is true, clock speed is not going to be alot higher! version1 (240/520) version2 (250/500) so hell, i can already clock my card close to that! |

I am seriously looking at buying this card, but there are 2 things holding me back.
1) Will the announcement/release of the GF3 Ultra/Pro cause this Gainward GF3 Golden Sample price to drop by a significant amount? 2) I am not really into overclocking, but I have read in numerous reviews and posts that people are removing the thermal tape and using the artic silver 2, should I do this to prolong the life of the card? I will try oc it when I get it, but not to the max since I can not afford to replace it if I fry it. |

Gainward GeForce3 Golden Sample Power Pack!!! + ASUS CUSL2-C Mobo
A quick question for those who plugged the fan in on the mobo rather than the onboard. What mobo do you have? I have a ASUS CUSL2-C, I want to know of the power cable for the fan is long enough? If it is not what can I do? Replace the fan with a Blue Orb? Is there an extension I could use? Thanks for any help! |
