I put together a machine about 4 months ago from some spare parts, a new slot A Thunderbird, new mobo, and a new power supply.
The thing just randomly crashes after between 2 and 20 minutes. I have replaced everything except the CPU and power supply, including the mobo. Could the power supply be causing hte random crashes? Or is it probably the CPU? This thing is driving me crazy! I've never had this problem with any other system I've put together before. Spec's: Maxtor 5400rpm 20GB HDD, floppy, 50X Staples CDROM, old atapi zip, Gigabyte 7IXE mobo, AMD 850 Mhz Thunderbird, 128 MB crucial PC133 CAS3 RAM (don't ask, mistake when ordering), Powmax 300W power supply (from Compgeeks), Montego II sound card, Antec desktop case, ATI Rage 128 16mb video card. The mobo temp maxes out at 40C and the CPU at 62C. Thanks for your time. [Edited by Civengine on 08-22-2001 at 07:00 AM] |

Are you using any USB device on your computer?
His machine crash because of the USB device he used. |

I've seen power supplies cause this problem.

No USB devices. It is stripped so I can figure out what is wrong.

I would guess funky power supply, what are your voltage readings in your BIOS, are they close to normal?
