Question

Helo!

Have a very, very important question. I live in Singapore and am going over to Chicago to study and I've been contemplating bringing the computer that I already have, which I bought here in Singapore, over to America. Either that, or I'll dissemble it and bring some parts over and buy some parts over there. Does anyone forsee any problems that I might have in doing this, like electrical supply or something? Is it a good idea?
Thanks very much for any help!

Robyn

Considering the distance involved, it would be best if you could remove all the cards from the motherboard and package them seperately. Do this with the CDROM and hard drive also. Unplug the PS from the mobo also. When you unpack the box in the US, remove and re-seat the memory. Reinstall everything in the spots they used to be in and you should be fine.

Goods luck.

I actually did consider a laptop but figured that I wouldn't be carrying it around very much since I like taking notes on paper. Also it doesn't give as much power as a desktop when playing games...in my free time, of course.

I've known quite a few (over half a dozen) foreign students who've brought their mini-towers over from Taiwan in their carry-on luggage. There has been no problems whatsoever... that I know of, anyway. Note that Taiwanese use 115V sockets.

The only two problems that I can see happening:
- Carry-on will be too big to pass by the newer/tougher size restrictions.
- Longer time going through customs, if you happen to get one of those custom officers.
