To all server expert out there:
what do you think of buying this new Dell server (that $699 deal)as a desktop? What do I need to convert it to a gaming/video editing rig? Is it feasible? Please help fast! This deal is going away today! |

I don't see why not...Make sure it's got enough expansion slots for your needs and make sure you can disable any integrated video (if it exists). Most servers don't come with AGP slots, so you might want to check out if it has one or not

Yeah - that's the one drawback - video on servers is generally very low end. If you buy this as a gaming machine, 1) make sure it has an AGP slot, and 2) prepare to spend another couple hundred or so on a decent video card. You're probably better off pooling the money & getting a refurbished Dimension.
