Cool

I recently bought the MSI Star Force Pro 831 and it came with a tv out port. This port is S-video but none of my tvs or vcrs have s-video, so is there a cable or something that i can buy that will convert from s-video to another format, such as rca or coax? Thanks

If your card didnt come with an s-video to composite cable then you will need to buy one of them and buy a composite cable to go from the card to the tv, vcr and such, i hoped this helped!

The RCA adapters that are bundled with NV cards use 2 special pins added on the S-Video out (S-Video only uses 4 pins) port. It's not likely you'll find that at Radio Shack. If you don't mind a little soldering, get a shielded 6 pin mini DIN connector (with appropriately sized pins) and a short shielded video extension cable (at least one female end). Solder pins 5 and 6 to a stripped end of the video extension cable (wire on one pin, braided shielding to the other). You'll need to figure out which pin is ground (it will be in continuity with pins 1 and 2 (bottom of DIN connector, one pin on each side of the plastic black key pin) before you solder it.

Another way of making an adapter is connecting pins 1 and 2 together (ground) and putting a 470pF cap (10V or greater) between pins 3 and 4 and take the output at pin 3:

/ _ \
|4 3|
|5 6|
\2x1/
x = black keyed pin/peg & _ = notched key, viewed from back

You'll get a composite signal from that. If you've never done modifications like this, or you have no idea what I'm talking about, don't do this. You could ruin your card if you're not careful.

Radio Shack

I just bought a converter from radio shack that converts from s-video to composite for $20, but it doesn't seem to work. I don't think it's the converter, I probably hooked it up wrong, any suggestions on the error I could be making?

did your card come with and s-video to RVA jack? it should have, but anyway, get one of those, then hook it up just like your PSX or N64 get sound adapter (headphone to RCA) and you can run your video and sound down the same cable to your TV, but from the sounds of it, you guys are really wanting VIVO (video in video out) in that case, you are SOL, cause you have to get a card with it built on to it. Using the TV-out, makes your TV your primary monitor, and the max res. (depending on your tv) for a regular analog tv (older tvs, w/o hdtv) is 640x480-800x600
