Alrighty, my first box that I've built...is not booting up. At first, it just wouldn't post, i.e. everything was whirring away, and the mobo (8k7a) was showing the FF on the leds. So then, I proceeded to take out my PCI stuff, my video card, unhooked everything until all I had was my chip, hsf, and ram. It still would not post. THEN, all of a sudden, it would not turn on. I don't know why, but at this point, either my PSU is blown, my mobo is fried, or my power button simply isn't working.

Is there any way to test if my parts are defective? Like my mobo or PSU?

This is rather annoying...

Try reseting your bios, alot of time when they come from the factory the settings are so jacked that the first thing you need to do is reset it 8)

I would recommended clearing the CMOS like he said. My box won't post if the FSB and multiplier are all messed up either. Check yoru chip....hopefully you didn't crack it or burn it. Make sure the DIMMs are seated correctly. Check the manual for your motherboard too, sometimes you have to put them start from the left side or the right side. Hope this helps some man, sorry to hear about your computer :-/

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

Hmmm...

Good ideas, I'll get to them if I ever get my PSU turned on. Like I said, now, nothing will power on, which is my primary concern, but yeah, I've set my jumpers to clear the CMOS which I hope will help once I get the thing turned on...

Smile ok

try checking your default jumpers! coz the epox 8k7a's jumpers weren't defaulted pc 2100 speed instaed pc1600, just double check your jumper settings...also, try to unplug the PS from the mobo aswell as the devices eg: cd-rom, HDD, etc. I had a similar problem last night w/ the system that I was building for a friend.

later

if you have a multimeter, you can check your psu....

so, you can't even get to your bios anymore?

make sure the mb is well grounded, and that no extraneous parts are touching the case... (you have enough support underneath the mb to keep it from touching the case).

So...

Basically I just stick a wire inbetween those two pins and turn on my PSU, and that SHOULDN'T cause any damage?
